One Health: one health prospective, a key for a sustainable future (BIO700)
The course addresses One Health, for a sustainable use of resources. The course is held in the NUPEM Campus in Macae (Brazil), which is part of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

The course is linked to the project titled One Health perspective, a key for a sustainable future.
Maximum 30 selected students (10 from Norway and 20 from Brazil) may attend. Teachers from UiS, UFRJ, FIOCRUZ, NMBU, UCR, Helse Stavanger, and invited guests arrange for lectures and supervise field experiences.

- Economical aspects: giving value to nature
- Environmental challenges/monitoring
- Field activities
Total lecture hours: 40 hours
Learning outcome
Upon completing the course, the students will have:
- Have basic knowledge of the One Health concept. Methodologies from molecules to ecosystem will be introduced, including quantification of biodiversity, the use of statistical tools. Legal aspects, protection, law will be presented.
- Skills in understanding aspects on One Health.
- Competence developed through lectures related to a relevant case study, field experience, and workshop activity.

The assessment is based on submission of a report one month after the course, based on an assignment given during the course.Three of the professors participating at the course will evaluate the quality the report.The report can be executed individually or in groups. Report will be graded: Passed / Not passed.No resit is offered for the report. If a student wishes to redo the report, this can be done next time the course is taught.
Coursework requirements
The following mandatory activities must be approved, in order to access the final report:
- Participation in a workshop.
- An oral presentation of a graphical abstract during the workshop.

Lectures, presentation and field experiences. Total lecture hours: 40 hours
Students are provided with lecture slides, and additional material for following classes.
A 1 day workshop aims to help students in communicating scientific results, students are tutored during the day and asked to prepare a graphical abstract regarding a scientific publication. The graphical abstract is then presented at the end of the day by each student.
Field experiences are carried out in order to practice the learnt lectures.
