Course
Mathematical method for economists (BØK108)
The main part of the course is an introduction to the most basic mathematical principles and methods students will need throughout their studies. The focus will be on training and extending students’ skills in mathematic that is a central part of modern economics. Mathematical methods are also very useful tools for analytical thinking, and will help students develop different problem solving strategies that can be used in a number of economic courses.
Students will also get an introduction to science and research. How have we learned everything we know today about economic structures and mechanisms in society? How do we know what type of markets, institutions and policies create benefits for us as consumers and producers? How does all the knowledge managers need to make good decisions accumulate? Where does the content of students’ textbooks come from? Students will get a brief overview of how research is conducted, and will also be presented for some of the research carried out at the UiS Business School.
