Content

Introduction to the concepts of energy and power, review of renewable and non-renewable energy sources, energy storage and principles for energy transfer and energy conversion will be provided. Emphasis is placed on relevant calculations in order to be able to assess the effect and performance of energy sources and energy systems.

Learning outcome

The course will give students a broad and basic understanding of energy systems and energy technologies. Students will gain an understanding of how thermodynamics is used in practical contexts and will be able to make simple analyzes using thermodynamic principles. Students will get an overview of technologies for renewable energy and technology for conventional energy production, as well as the interaction between these when the energy is distributed to consumers. Energy conversion technologies for solar, wind, water and various hydrocarbons will be explained and students will be able to solve simple but real energy conversion related problems.
