Content

We experience several forms of silence in the course of our everyday lives, even if we are seldom pausing and reflecting about the impact that silences have in communication, connection and well-being. In this ECIU micro-module students will, through challenge-based learning, strategically and critically reflect about the role of silence in communication, connection and well-being, and how to plan qualitative research projects about the topic.

Knowledge

Upon course completion, the candidate :

  • LOK1 has insight in a limited area of research where silence could be used to promote well-being.
  • LOK2 LOK2 is familiar with research and development work on the field of silence and well-being.

Skills

Upon course completion, the candidate can:

  • LOS1 can analyze and deal critically with various sources of information and use them to structure and formulate scholarly arguments around well-being.
  • LOS2 can use relevant methods for research and scholarly and /or artistic development work in an independent manner

General competence

After completing the course, the candidate should be able to:

  • LOG1 can analyze relevant academic, professional and research ethical problems around interventions that use silence as a tool to promote well-being.
  • LOG2 can contribute to new thinking and innovation processes within the fields of communication, human connection, and well-being.

The course will be assessed via an exam with the following components:

  • a) a 1600 +/- 10% words project description of a project proposal addressing the theoretical and methodological aspects in relation to the silence-based challenge.

The assessment is graded on a pass/not pass basis and must be completed within five weeks after the course has finished.

Attendance
Participation in at least one of the webinars and one seminars is a condition to submit the exam.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students.
