Structural systems for buildings. Advanced knowledge on wood material and wood-based materials (solid timber, CLT (cross laminated timber), DLT/NLT (doweled laminated timber/nailed laminated timber), LVL (Laminated veneer lumber), etc.). Design of timber structures. Design of joints and connections. Introduction to European design rules for timber structures, Eurocode 5. Glulam and arch structures. Stability and bracing systems. Basic ultimate and serviceability state requirements.
Learning outcome
Through the course, the students will acquire general competence in designing the structure for a standard building or bridge according to background and basis of Design Rules. They will acquire knowledge about load-carrying timber structural systems, including connections. Students will be able to verify timber structures with respect to European Design Rules (Eurocode 5).

The folder is given as 3 separate submissions with an overall grade. The folder is made in groups of two to three people.
No re-sit opportunities are offered for portfolios. Students who do not pass the portfolio can retake it the next time the course is held. Both the written exam and the portfolio must be passed in order to get a passing grade in the course.

One mandatory submission/exercise consisting of three assignments must be approved before admission to the exam.

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years.
