Course

Signals and Systems (ELE300)

This course presents fundamental theory for linear systems, both time-continuous and time-discrete, and is an essential tool for understanding physical systems, as well as treatment of all kinds of signals.

Dette er emnebeskrivelsen for studieåret 2017-2018. Merk at det kan komme endringer.

Content

Basic consepts for continous time and discrete time signalse (i.e. linearity, time invariances, causality and stability), convolution, difference and differential equations, impulse responses, transforms (Fourier, Z-, and Laplace transforms), frequency domain analysis, transfer functions.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Understand the connection between continuous time and discrete time signals and the role of digital signal processing in the processing of continuous time signals.
  • Engage in qualified reasoning on technical problems involving fundamental concepts in signals and systems, particularly the relationship between inputs and outputs of linear time invariant systems.

Skills:

  • Perform input/output calculations for linear time invariant systems both in the time and in the transform domain.
  • Use Matlab for elementary signal processing tasks.

General competance:

  • Upon course completion, the student have established a basic understanding of fundamental concepts in signal and systems theory.
