Content

The course gives a practical, as well as a theoretical, introduction to the field of experimental measurements. The topics treated include basic statistics, observation and propagation of errors, plotting and representation of experimental data as well as principles of simple data analysis. An introduction to the mathematical software "Mathematica" is given. Basic setup for writing technical reports.

Learning outcome

After having completed this course the student should be able to:

- Realise that different types of uncertainties are to be associated with experimental measurements.

- Conduct standard procedures for propagation of errors.

- Apply statistical methods for analysing and presenting experimental data.

- Exercise basic experimental skills with focus on accuracy.

- Write a technical report.
