Course

Practical Training in Computational Engineering or Energy, Reservoir and Earth Sciences (GEO680)

In this course, learning takes place in a professional environment, either within or outside the university, for example, in a technology company, at a research institute, or as part of a major challenge-based project (e.g an international academic project competition). The course aims to give students practical experience and the opportunity to immerse themselves in selected issues related to real work practices.

Content

The student must find the appropriate workplace on their own; alternatively, the student may select a challenged-based project and find a supervisor within the department. In cooperation with the student, workplace, and lecturer, an agreement/contract and plan are devised for how the internship and supervision are conducted. The evaluation will be made based on a report and presentation from the student. The report should contain a discussion of specified issues related to business practices. In the case the work is performed in a company, documentation certifying that the student performed the work accordingly is a requirement.

The course is normally conducted in the fall semester. In the case of challenge-based projects with a duration over two semesters or during the spring semester, the student needs to register for the course in the fall semester, while evaluation is made in the spring semester.
