Content

Work practice aims to establish good relationships with the business community and help bridge the gap between educational institutions and the workforce. Students will complete approximately 280 work hours in a local, national, or international organization/business.

Students choose one of the following practice fields:

  • Activities related to the sea, water, and waterways: e.g., Surfschool, Jæren folkehøyskole, Norwegian Lifesaving Society (NLS)
  • Nearby outdoor activities, nature excursions, and didactics: e.g., Madlavoll School and/or local kindergartens
  • Nature-based tourism and guiding: e.g., Turistforeningen (The Norwegian Trekking Association), Lysefjorden 365
  • Management and public health: e.g., Outdoor Recreation Councils, Frilageret, Municipal outdoor recreation work

Knowledge

The candidate should:

  • Have knowledge of the goals of the organization, the content, and the societal benefits related to their field of practice.
  • Be able to plan activities and ensure the safety of themselves and others.

Skills

The candidate should:

  • Instruct/teach/lead others in an outdoor education context.
  • Be able to reflect on the value the organization has for society.

General Competence

The candidate should:

  • Be able to take initiative and responsibility for establishing relationships with potential future employers.

Work Practice Report: The exam is graded as pass/fail. The report should be 10-12 pages long, written in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing. About half of the report should consist of a work log.

Content of the Work Log: A) Description of the organization/field of practice. B) Detailed log of activities equivalent to 2 weeks. C) Description of the student’s learning objectives prior to the work practice, description of goal achievement after the work practice, and self-reflection on the degree of goal achievement. D) Description of the student’s work and learning process in light of the employer’s task formulations. E) What the student considers to be the most important learning outcomes that can be carried forward into the workforce and justification for this.

Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen/vurdering

Completed Work Practice. Attendance in the work practice is approved if the student has attended at least 80% of the scheduled work practice.

Practice

Work Practice equivalent to approximately 280 work hours, including preparation, execution, and evaluation. Work practice may take place in the evenings and on weekends, depending on the agreement made between the student and the practice site.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
