Content
A selection of unit operations often used for industrial applications within chemical and environmental engineering will be treated. The physical and chemical basis of these processes will be studied. Methods for calculating size of equipment from process requirements will also be treated. Some keywords are reaction kinetics, reactors, sedimentation, mass transfer processes, heat transfer processes, heat exchangers, diffusion, absorption/adsorption, ion exchange, membranes, filtration, mass balances and calculation of mass streams.
Learning outcome
The student will understand the physical and chemical processes that describe the function of selected unit operations, and be able to apply this knowledge to calculate dimensions of technical equipment, and estimate time requirements. Schooling in the engineer's way of thinking will make the student able to identify unit operations, and acquire further knowledge of process technology based on the basic knowledge from this course.
