Content

The course will give the students an introduction to mechanical engineering and a foundation for later courses in the study program. They will learn to use laboratory and workshop equipment and a relevant CAD software. Through exercises and project work they will familiarize themselves with the engineering discipline in collaboration with other students.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • HSE regulations for the lab
  • Fundamentals in geometric description of machine parts
  • Knowledge about mechanical properties of materials
  • Have a basic understanding of machining deviations and tolerances, as well as relevant standards

Skills:

  • Make simple machine parts through welding, milling and lathing
  • Use measurement equipment in the lab
  • Determine materials mechanical properties using tensile and impact tests
  • Make simple technical drawings and make 3D models in a CAD software

General competence:

  • Plan and perform a work in collaboration with other students
  • Write a technical report

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
