Course

Product Development and 3D Modelling (MSK220)

This course provides an introduction to Product Development and 3D-Modelling. In Product Development the focus is on the different processes which lead to the realization of a  product including the identification of customer needs, demands on functionality as well as a systematic evaluation of alternative solutions of the product. 3D-Modelling focuses on formulation and generation of curves, surfaces and volume as well as the generation and representation of product data.

Content

The course is an introduction to product development and 3D modelling. The part on product development focuses on processes that lead to the final product. The kernel in 3D modelling is on the creation of curves, surfaces and solids as well as on linear transformations. The student will learn about fundamental principles in computer graphics and the representation of wireframe, surface and solid models. Applications with CAD-software in product development and 3D modelling.

Learning outcome

The knowledge and understanding of: Processes that lead to the realization of a product. The fundamentals of the CAD-system and its functionality in product design and development. The mathematical basis for making digital geometric models. The storage and exchange of product data.

Skills in: Use of CAD-software in 3D modelling for product design and development.
