Content

Introduction to different types of medical equipments used in healthcare for both diagnostics and treatment.

Learning outcome

After taking this course, the student should:
  • Understand the significance of the bioelectrical signals found throughout the body
  • Understand the principle behind and know the medical equipment for measuring pressure and flow in circulatory physiology
  • Be able to explain how ultrasound can be used to both measure blood flow over the years and to crush kidney stones.
  • Understand the principle behind and know the medical equipment for measurement in the lungs (spirometry)
  • Understand the principle behind and know the medical equipment measuring blood gases and gas in breathing air.
  • Understand the principle behind and know the medical equipment for the use of lasers for both surgical use and to monitor patients.
  • Understand the principle behind and know the medical equipment for defibrillators (defibrillators), respirators and infusion pumps (both those standing next to the bed and those inserted under the skin.
  • Understand the principle behind pacemakers.
  • Understand the principle behind and know the medical equipment for diathermy (which means cutting into the patient with high electric current). Know what challenges this creates by simultaneously measuring the patient's ECG.
  • Understand how the interaction between different types of equipment can affect the patient's health.
  • Have knowledge of how wireless monitoring, welfare technology and remote diagnostics can affect the daily routines in the health care system.
