Content

The course will introduce different materials (polymers, metals, and ceramics) and their behaviors in contact with biological environments while presenting a balance of fundamental biological concepts, materials science background, medical/clinical concerns, & coverage of biomaterials past, present, & future. In addition, students will learn about the properties of biological materials like bone, muscles, skin and vasculature.

Learning outcome

This course will have the following intended learning outcomes. Consequently, with the successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Describe the material science and engineering requirements related to biomaterials.

2. Provide specific examples of the different types of biomaterials and their intrinsic differences.

3. Explain the complexity of the application of materials in biology.

4. Employ engineering analysis methods to evaluate the selection and performance of biomaterials.

5. Critically reflect on and apply basic concepts to biomaterials.

6. Demonstrate clear technical written and oral communication skills.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
