Content

This course explores the psychological aspects of pedagogical processes and forms of practice. The students learn about the following central pedagogical-psychological topics: learning and development processes for people in different age groups; key psychological aspects of educational processes, pedagogical theories and forms of practice; pedagogical-psychological methods and research traditions. Educational psychology will focus on both normal development and atypical development, primarily related to learning difficulties.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

On successful completion of this course, students will

  • have knowledge of the concept of learning, based on traditions from the psychology of learning
  • have knowledge of pedagogical-psychological theories and methods, and their relative strengths and weaknesses
  • have knowledge of the most widely used tests for educational and psychological assessment of children and young people

Skills

On successful completion of this course, students will

  • be able to select and explain pedagogical-psychological theories and methods that are relevant in connection with a given intervention case
  • be able to assess and provide input for treatment plans for the most common learning difficulties in children and young people
  • be able to compare these theories and methods and explain their relative strengths and weaknesses
  • be able to explain and discuss different theories of motivation
  • be able to discuss what constitutes good collaboration and teamwork
  • be able to explain the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching for individuals and in relevant groups

General competencies

On successful completion of this course, students will

  • have a basic understanding of the thinking behind, assessment and treatment of the most common learning difficulties
  • have a basic understanding of the ethical challenges that arise in connection with testing children and young people
  • be able to describe, explain and compare different models

Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen/vurdering

All of the compulsory activities must be approved in order for the student to be eligible for examination. Approval/non-approval of compulsory activities is announced on Studentweb, normally no later than 7 days before the examination. Students who lack approval of one or more compulsory activities will be withdrawn from the examination.

Method of work

The teaching will alternate between lectures and student-active methods.

  • The student is expected to prepare for the teaching through literature studies. Recommended literature is indicated in the lecture plan.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years.
