Content

NB! This is an elective course and may be cancelled if fewer than 10 students are enrolled by August 20th for the autumn semester.

Structural reliability. Load types and load factors. Environmental loads: snow and wind loads. Soil pressure. Timber structural design. Primary load carrying structure and -stiffening members. Precast concrete elements. Stiffening effects of plates in a precast concrete element building, in-situ constructed concrete buildings, light buildings with corrugated steel plates and wooden plates. Wind trusses. Design of in-situ concrete elements such as flat slabs, load bearing walls, stairs. Construction details. Accident limit state. Fire protection. Basement on soil, . Joins in buildings. Foundation wall. Special foundation problems. Load bearing wall. Earthquake resistant design.

Learning outcome

After completing this course the student shall be familiar with commonly used structural systems and their design. The student shall:

  • be familiar with the requirements related to structural reliability and serviceability.
  • be able to calculate various types of loads and load combinations.
  • be able to design timber and concrete structures including foundation.
  • be able to design various structural details.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
