Structural systems for buildings. Advanced knowledge on wood material and wood-based materials (solid timber, CLT (cross laminated timber), DLT/NLT (doweled laminated timber/nailed laminated timber), LVL (Laminated veneer lumber), etc.). Design of timber structures. Design of joints and connections. Introduction to European design rules for timber structures, Eurocode 5. Glulam and arch structures. Stability and bracing systems. Basic ultimate and serviceability state requirements.
Learning outcome
Through the course, the students will acquire general competence in designing the structure for a standard building according to background and basis of design rules. They will acquire knowledge about load-carrying wooden structural systems, including connections. Students will be able to verify timber structures with respect to European Design Rules (Eurocode 5).
