Central topics in mass and energy transfer, and chemical and biological conversion processes are introduced and combined in process analysis based on mass and energy balances. Selected chemical and environmental unit operations are analysed, and applications within the fields are presented.
Dette er emnebeskrivelsen for studieåret 2021-2022
A selection of unit operations (sedimentation, filtering, ad- and absorption, heat Exchange, ideal reactors, dewatering and drying) often used for industrial applications within chemical and environmental engineering will be treated. The physical and Chemical/biochemical basis of these processes will be studied. Methods for calculating size of equipment from process requirements will also be treated. Some keywords are reaction kinetics, yields, reactors, sedimentation, mass transfer processes, heat transfer processes, heat exchangers, diffusion, absorption/adsorption, ion exchange, membranes, filtration, mass balances and calculation of mass streams.
Learning outcome
Candidates will learn and understand the basic concepts and theories for mass- and energy transport, and chemical and biological conversion processes. The student will understand the physical and chemical processes that describe the function of selected unit operations, and be able to apply this knowledge to calculate dimensions of technical equipment. Schooling in the engineer's way of thinking will make the student able to identify unit operations, and acquire further knowledge of process technology based on the basic knowledge from this course.
