Knowledge

The candidate

• Can critically appraise key knowledge in communication, related to human factors, decision making and management in prehospital emergencies
• Has thorough knowledge of theory of effective communication within a team, as well as with patients and relatives in emergency situations
• Has knowledge about how simulation based training can be used as a tool to enhance communication and decision making in clinical practice.

Skills

The candidate

• Can critically evaluate human factors that are involved when faced with critical incidents and describe the application of crew resource management techniques to minimize risks and improve outcomes
• Can evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of inter-agency working, specifically in relation to management, decision making, communication and team working
• Can facilitate simulation based training

General Competence

The candidate

• Can demonstrate the ability to execute professional communication in relation to patients, next of kin and others involved in critical incidents
• Can display the ability and willingness to collaborate inter-professionally
• Has an awareness of ethical considerations during communication
• Can use simulation based training to enhance communication and decision making

1. 80% class attendance. If more than 50% attendance is achieved the student will be given an individual evaluation.
