Content

Introduction to Production/Manufacturing Engineering, Quality control and assurance, Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and Lean manufacturing and Lean-Six-Sigma, Metrology (theoretical and practical aspects of Engineering measurement), Metal cutting Principles, Cutting Tools and Operations, Machining Economics, additive manufacturing [i.e. 3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping (RP), Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM), layered manufacturing and additive fabrication], Project management Techniques (CPM, PERT & Crashing), Introduction to CAD/CAM and Computer Numerical Control (CNC)-ISO 6983-1:Part Programming and Machining with CNC-Turning center (OKUMA-LB9 Series), Production line balancing, Introduction to welding.

Learning outcome

After completing this course, the student should be able to solve both technical and management related tasks in the production/manufacturing industry

In order to take the exam: 7 out of 10 of the compulsory assignments, 3 laboratory exercises and the 2- workshop exercises (3DP/ALM and CNC) must be approved.

Method of work

4 hours lectures and 2 hours of tutorials per week. Compulsory assignments. 3 compulsory laboratory exercises and 2 compulsory workshop exercise (3DP/ALM and CNC).
