Content

The course introduces different types of medical equipment used for diagnosis and treatment. Emphasis is placed on the equipment's principled operation and function.

Learning outcome

Understand the significance of the bioelectrical signals found throughout the body.

Understand the principle behind and be familiar with the medical equipment for:

  • measuring pressure and flow in circulatory systems
  • spirometry (measurements of the lungs)
  • measuring blood gases and gases in breathing air
  • defibrillators
  • respirators
  • infusion pumps
  • pulse oximeters
  • invasive/non-invasive blood pressure monitors
  • diathermy
  • pacemakers
  • biomedical optics and lasers
  • ultrasound, blood flow measurements and therapeutic use

Understand the principles of clinical imaging techniques:

  • diagnostic ultrasound imaging
  • X-ray planar radiography
  • computed tomography (CT)
  • positron emission tomography (PET)
  • magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Understand the implications of the use of artificial intelligence in medical equipment.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
