Performance Practice (MUM702)
The main focus of the course is the relationship between notation and sounding text through changing eras and ideals. It is taught both historically, biographically and regarding music theory. The course deals with the collective (societal, technological, ideological, stylistic), school-related (traditional, teaching-related and institutional) and individual impulses and causes that underlie for a performing result.

Learning outcome
After completing and passing the programme, the candidate should be able to:
General competence
- demonstrate a general overview of the performer's role in music history
- reflect with rooting in knowledge about the relationship and the mutual influence between composition and practice
Knowledge
- document knowledge of a selection of important performers, their style of play, interpretations, historical significance and, not least, position in a practical performance perspective
- explain reasoned notions of the concept of this perspective, and be able to know something about the assumptions, behaviors and characteristics of the various practices
Skills
- in practice, translating on one's own instrument parts of the knowledge acquired in the course

The exam in this course will be a written home assignment 4500 words (+/- 10%), or a combination of written 2000 words (+/- 10%) and performing assignments documented with a recording. Individual or group exam, by agreement with the lecturer. Group submission will affect the scope of the assignment.
The exam text will be published 3 weeks before the submission deadline.
Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen/vurdering
Teaching in the course is mandatory, the Master Forums included. In order to take the exam, the student must have at least 80% attendance.
It is in general not differentiated between causes of its absence.
