Content

Properties of various statistical models and their physical applications. Statistical models using the principle of statistical inference. Monte Carlo simulation. Transformation of variables. Signal processing in both frequency and time domains. Direct stiffness method. Equations of motions for dynamic systems. Vibration and resonance. Programming in MATLAB. Finite element method applied to truss, beam and frame structures with emphasis on its application in engineering problems.

Learning outcome

The learning outcome includes the following aspects:

  • To have the insights related to properties of various statistical models and their physical applications, and establish statistical models using the principle of statistical inference.
  • To be familiar with different techniques within probabilistic analysis, including Monte Carlo simulations and transformation of variables.
  • To be able to process signals in both frequency and time domains and carry out data analysis.
  • To be able to establish the equations of motions for dynamic systems and solve the motions in both frequency and time domains.
  • To understand the important phenomenon in dynamic responses of simple systems.
  • To be able to solve simple structural truss, beam and frame problems using the finite element procedure.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
