Content

The first part of the course will give and introduction on prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, how DNA and chromosomes are build, gene expression, cell division and communication. Furthermore, the course presents selected topics on organelle development and division, metabolic compartmentation, circadian rhythms, peroxisomal functions in different cells, DNA-repair.

Learning outcome

After completing this course students should be able to:

  • Describe the building blocks of different cell types
  • Understand how genes are expressed
  • Describe how cells divide and communicate
  • Understand different cell biological laboratory techniques
  • Have some insight into the various research activities within biological chemistry at UiS
