Content
The course consists of a theoretical part with lectures, seminars and project work. Each group of 3-4 students will evaluate a contemporary planning task and write a report of 30-40 pages. Every phase of the planning process from analysis of the basic situation and the identification of the planning problem to the choice of alternatives will be treated. The different methods of planning and their usefulness in different situations and their implications for the planner¿s role will be discussed. The development towards public-private cooperation, increased participation and broader ¿governance¿ processes in spatial planning is treated.
Emphasis is put on the technical-economical field, especially areas where actions need to be taken regarding broader social issues like the climate challenge and sustainable development. The course aims at training students to choose planning processes and methods to suit actual planning situations. Through the exercises and the project work the students will be trained on real life examples from the Stavanger region.
