Course
Geothermal Energy Systems (ENP130)
Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source that is based on heat from the earth's crust. In this course students will get an introduction to what it takes to build a geothermal energy system and how one can make calculations to assess the efficiency of the system.

Content
The course provides general knowledge of geothermal energy and techniques for energy conversion and distribution. The effect of parameters such as temperature gradient, well diameter and flow for geothermal energy production will be studied, both for shallow and deep systems:
- Heating and cooling using heat pumps
- Steam cycles for the production of electricity with superheated steam, wet steam with steam separation and dual systems (Organic Rankine Cycles)
- The possibility of using existing oil and gas wells for geothermal energy production
- Cost analyzes for various geothermal installations
