The bachelor's thesis is an independent piece of research work. The purpose of the thesis is to give students the opportunity to specialise in a topic and work independently on academic questions. The thesis will provide training in writing a text that satisfies requirements regarding scientific argumentation and presentation. Students choose their own social science topic.

Learning outcome

After completing and passing the course, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

  • Possess a broad and multidisciplinary knowledge of a central social work theme and related issues and processes.
  • Knowledge of the research process.
  • Knowledge of social science methods and their possibilities and limitations.

  • Apply a broad and multidisciplinary knowledge base.

  • Conduct a literature or document study relevant to their field of study.

  • Be able to apply research-based knowledge as a basis for knowledge-based practice.

Students must write an individual specialization assignment of up to 10,000 words, including a table of contents, footnotes, source referencing, and bibliography. Referencing style: APA 7th.

The department assigns a supervisor. Students are entitled to four supervision sessions, of which at least one supervision session is individual. Students are responsible for contacting the supervisor. Supervision must be completed one week before the submission deadline.

Both compulsory activities must be approved in order for the student to submit their bachelor’s thesis. Approval/non-approval of compulsory activities is announced on Studentweb. Students who lack approval of one or more compulsory activities will not be permitted to submit their bachelor’s thesis.

Attendance requirements: 75% attendance requirement for teaching in research methods. Students who have less than 75% attendance lose the right to submit their bachelor’s thesis, regardless of the reason.

Individual Assignment: Formulate and justify a research question (approximately 250 words). The research question will be evaluated as either approved or not approved by the course coordinator. It should be submitted via INSPERA.

Emneevaluering

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
