With an MSc in information technology, the door is open to some of the most challenging and interesting jobs in the field. The study program gives a broad foundation within the field of computer science. This in an international study program and all courses are given in english. The program is organized under the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

 

Composition of the study program

The study program comprises 120 credit points (ECTS) in total, taken over 2 years. 20 ECTS

are basic core subjects (B), 60 ECTS are specialisation subjects (S), 30 ECTS are credited for the master thesis (M), and 10 ECTS are elective subjects. The master thesis is done on an individual basis where a written report is mandatory. Master theses with industrial partners are highly recommended.

 

The program utilizes lectures, and activities such as individual projects, group projects,

laboratory exercises with written reports, and company and industrial plant visits as learning

methods. There is a high degree of individual advisory in the program ¿ especially with

regards to the Master thesis at the end.

 

A system for continuous assessment and evaluation of the study program is in place. The program plan, including a revision proposal, will be handled by the quality and program committee on a yearly basis according to University policies and guidelines. Furthermore, each individual course included in the program will be evaluated and assessed.

  • Can design, model, simulate, and develop advanced network based computer systems with focus on dependability and security.
  • Is capable of using knowledge in wireless communication, sensor networking, and distributed communication systems.
  • Can use relevant methods for research and software development in an independent manner.
  • Can analyze and relate in a critical manner to different information sources and apply these to structure and formulate professional reasoning within information technology.
  • Can perform an independent, limited research- or development project under guidance and in line with established ethical norms for research.

General Competence

  • Can analyze relevant professional, and research ethical problems.
  • Can apply ones knowledge and skills to new areas to conduct complex tasks and projects.

Student exchange

Students in Computer Science who are applying for study abroad are advised to travel in their 2nd semester. Students who wish to go to a Nordic country are recommended to make use of the NORDTEK-network which opens up for student exchanges at master¿s level with 21 Nordic Universities and University colleges with master degree education within technology in Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden. In Europe students can apply through the ERASMUS-programme.Students have been on exchange to University of Western Australia, Queensland University of Technology and San Diego State University, USA.
